I woke up today and my boobs were knotty and felt like I needed to pump or feed pronto. Thisisthe first time I've felt like that since bringing Eli home. I started pumpimg and massaging around the knots and pumped 3oz. Not a lot but more than usual. Now when I pump, if the milk stops, I can start massaging and it starts again. Any tips on massaging??

I always massage as I pump. I just take 3 fingers and press and rub as the pump pumps away. Also, when the milk slows down, I push the cone more firmly into my breast, as if i am trying to flatten my boob to my chest and that also causes more milk to express out.

I create a ton of milk (6-8oz every time I pump), so my breasts get really really full. So when I do pump, i try to squeeze out every drop so I can go a little bit longer before I need to pump again.

Not sure on messaging. I nurse and express. When I am at work, I always pump a few minutes (2-3) longer after the milk seems to stop. I want to keep up my supply, so I am careful not to stop too soon. Not sure if it really helps. I do want to trick my body into thinking the baby is asking for more as I like to pump 1-2 more ounces a day that she eats just in case.

Okay, this is going to sound a bit pornographic but bear with me here!

I cup my breasts from underneath making upward facing Cs. My thumbs are basically at my armpits. I start right at the armpit and do circular motions and move down towards the nipples. I keep repeating this always starting way back towards the armpit and always ending at the aureola. You can shift your hands around so that as you go back you are starting at a new place around the breast and then working your way back in. I don't usually massage the underside of my breasts because that's where the pump is pressing the most and I feel pretty soft there most of the time. I tend to focus mostly on the tops and sides of my breasts. If I encounter any bumps/knots I just focus on massaging that part and then press firmly down (not to the point of pain or really making a dent in your breast). Within a few seconds I'll see a milk stream.

'Scuse the bad typing, please. 'Breast is Best' but not when browsing the internet!
