3d/4d ones are usually elective only and very pricy. I dont know many doctors who will even do them. I went to a special place at 16 weeks for gender and got a free 3d/4d preview.. but spent $80 on that alone. The other package is way too pricy. They are generally always optional.

The ultrasounds covered by my insurance is 12 weeks for dating, 20 weeks anatomy and general check up, and 36 for final quick check. I didnt get any good pictures from that either.

Pictures aren't usually that great after 30 weeks cause the baby is too big. The Dr's don't do them up here at all, I paid for an elective one but that's when I was around 26 weeks

You're far enough along that the results won't be as good anyway. There is a good chance baby is running out of room, so covering their face or squished in some way. When baby is here, it won't even matter that you don't have farther along ultrasound photos, because youll have them and actual photos to look at instead

Thank you, Jaidynsmum, for the amazing siggy

I agree that you're far enough along that it's unlikely to get great pictures at this point. my OB does not offer 4d ultrasounds, just the novelty clinics. If you have a radiology school near you, you might think about calling to see if their students need any practice and then you could get a look for free, and wouldn't have to worry about whether or not the pictures would be any good.

My Ob does offer 3d/4d during routine ultrasounds but they will not schedule one without medical need.
Also, chances are your insurance company would not cover an ultrasound from the Ob if they couldn't code it as necessary (ie: there's no concern for growth, abnormalities, weight check, etc).

I agree about not getting good pictures. I had a growth ultrasound at 32 weeks and they couldn't get any good pictures. I really wanted an update profile picture of her face at least and they couldn't do that cause she was head down and her fave was buried in me lol. Definitely get better views at the ultrasounds I had at 23 and 26 weeks.

I had a 3D/4D at 31 weeks (about as late as they will do it!) and we got some amazing pictures but it took some time! She was balled up like a pretzel, holding on to her legs and feet and had her face mashed into the placenta for the first 20 mins! Eventually we got her to move but it took some effort. And yes, it was at an elective place and was pricy! We got the biggest package but it was $199.

I had one today and it was $85. My doctors office doesn't do 3D. I paid out of pocket
