This morning I woke up at 4:30 and even with my head still on the pillow the whole room was spinning. I tried to sit up, and it took me about 5 minutes. I sat there for like half an hour waiting for the spinning and dizziness to subside, but by 5 it was still intense and I was starting to get motion sickness from it. I woke up DH and called the hospital for the on-call dr.
He told me to eat something with protein, drink some water, and be sure not to lie on my back (I hadn't been). He told me if the spinning didn't improve in an hour or two to go into L&D. I ate a little and drank a glass of water, then fell back asleep for an hour.
When I woke up at 6:30, nothing had changed. I told DH to go to work (he HATES hospitals) because I hadn't been having any contractions and both babies were moving well, and called my parents to have them take me to the hospital.
We got there around 8, and the one funny part of the day happened when my mom went in to ask for a wheelchair (I walk like a drunk sailor right now). She went to the L&D admittance window and told them her daughter was pregnant and waiting downstairs in the car, but she was a little too scatterbrained to explain she needed a wheelchair. So the admittance nurse just sat there kindly smiling, waiting for my mom to make her point. So then my mom started haphazardly explaining, and she got out "35 weeks/twins/wheelchair." Every nurse at the admittance window jumped up and started rushing around, running around corners for wheelchairs and rushing for the elevator. My mom said it was pretty hilarious.
So they admitted me; babies were fine, blood pressure and oxygen saturation were fine, CBC and CMP blood tests came back fine.
Basically, my body is completely healthy, I just can't stand up or walk on my own.
The dr finally came in, and explained I most likely have inflammation or congestion in my inner ear that will resolve on it's own within a few days. He wants me to take decongestants to try to help the process along, and move very carefully so I don't fall and cause much scarier problems.
Then he mentioned that one of my liver enzymes was slightly elevated. I haven't ever seen this dr, so I brought up how I'd been itching and was worried about cholestasis. He was great, took me seriously, and instantly added the labs to my bloodwork panel. He reassured me by telling me that after working with pregnant women for 27 years, he has never once needed to induce early for cholestasis because the baby was at risk. Rather, any time they've induced labor it has been because the mother is so miserable the pregnancy really can't continue. He did warn me, though, that if the test for cholestasis comes back positive, he may recommend we move my c-section to this Friday instead of in 2 weeks.
I go to the lab tomorrow to have comparison blood work done. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I hope it's not cholestasis and that you get some relief from the itching and vertigo soon! Glad to hear babies are healthy.

Thanks, ladies! I just finished at the lab for my second blood draw. They say my doctor should have the results in just an hour or two, so I'll call the office this afternoon and find out if everything is ok.
I hope everything comes back normal so I can cook these babies just a little longer!

Keep us posted! I'm glad it was nothing crazy that required intervention right then.

Update: the dr called and discussed my lab results with me from this morning. Everything came back normal (even the liver enzyme test that was high yesterday), but the test for cholestasis came back slightly high.
The dr wants me to call the office tomorrow and schedule a NST for the babies for Saturday. If they do well, he wants me to follow up with my routine dr on Tuesday (she's on vacation this week). If the babies are doing poorly, I will have my c-section Saturday!
I'm so nervous! The increased chance of stillbirth from cholestasis terrifies me. But at the same time, I'm really hoping the babies do well with the NST so I can have my dr deliver me. I've seen her this entire pregnancy, and while I'm confident in the dr who has been dealing with all this stuff this week with my pregnancy, it will be another dr on call Saturday.
Prayers and good thoughts this way, please!
