So for the most part I'm exclusively pumping, and except for a bout of mastitis it seems to be working OK. I try John at the breast a couple times a day. He appears (to me) to latch on fine. Sometimes he even seems to be nursing well and drinking. But he does not empty my breast at all. Today, for example, he was at the breast for about 30 minutes, happy as a clam and I heard him swallowing and had at least two let downs that I could feel. But then he comes off the breast, it is still full, and he starts acting very hungry.

Any ideas? I told DH that I wish he would either nurse all the way or refuse it all the way... giving me just enough hope to keep trying is kinda mean.

I never feel empty. I know Payson sometimes will act starving shortly after nursing but will take the breast again right away or she has an air bubble. I'm not sure what's going on with him but I hope you figure it out.

If you just pump how many ounces do you get? Then try to nurse with a follow up pump. Subtract the two to see what he took. I can pump 8 ounces in the morning, so even when Elli nurses for about 3 ounces, I am not empty even though she got enough.
