I got some reallllly cute baby clothes from a cousin today. My SO doesn't like hand me downs for some reason. I thought it was strange. Everything is very lightly used and most stuff is like new. I don't see the problem with it. Anyone against used clothing?

Also, it was tons on onesies, and other cute outfits. How many clothes do I need to purchase for the baby? I know they spit up and crap themselves occasionally but do I need to have tons of clothing?

I'm only weird with it if it comes from someone I don't know. And then after a couple washes it's usually okay (usually because I'm really sensitive to smells, so I have to watch the other person's detergent out of it). I really dislike used clothing for myself, but for my kids? Especially for really young ones they grow so fast it may only be worn a couple times. As long as it's not stained (my kids made some spectacular ones), I don't really see a problem with it.
Thanks to babydoll213 for the siggy! My kids' blog Cora's blog

Gently used hand me down clothes don't bother me, but for everything else it does. Ha ha. Unless I was really close with the person.

It doesn't bother me one bit. Almost everything we have is hand me downs or was purchased second hand. Especially true as the kids have gotten older. Baby clothing is super cheap but my oldest is in 4T and its way more expensive.

The only things I do not do second hand are things like the car seat and bedding/matress, also socks, underwear, or tennis shoes.

Almost all of my son's clothes are hand-me-downs. I don't mind unless it has stains or if it looks dingy.

Gently used hand me downs can be a blessing considering how fast they grow the first year. We received a lot of HMD's for my second baby. I also love shopping at our local Once Upon A Child store. Some things like shoes, I won't go for, but you can save a lot on clothing and certain baby gear by shopping second hand.

I don't have a problem with it. I've been offered hand me downs from a few friends already. The only thing is that I'm a little picky about clothes. I'm very into fashion. But I'll take anything I can get. Baby clothes are so expensive, and especially for two!

I am fine with hand me downs from friends and family. With my first not so much! I do not have anyone to give me hand me downs this time though, so I will have a mixture of new and gently used consignment shop clothes

I love hand me downs! We've gotten some pretty adorable and certainly pricey things from hand me downs. And having 3 girls, our last will have more hand me downs (although, to be honest, I do toss any stained, torn, worn clothes so she won't look like a rag-a-muffin). She'll get some new stuff too (who can pass up buying baby clothes) but definitely hand me downs have been our story for all the kids.

You don't need a ton of clothes. Really. My babes live in onesies and sleepers for the first year or so I have waaaay too many clothes for them all.

Hat's off to Vicki for my cute siggy, thank you!

I don't mind gently used hand me downs from family or friends. I don't have any of either who have little ones so I'll just be doing hand me downs from DD1 to DD2.

I don't mind hand me downs. Mostly I do the handing down though since besides one friend who had a daughter three weeks before me I am the one with the oldest kids.

Not only are most of my daughter's closets filled with hand me down clothing (or second-hand, consignment finds), probably 75% of their toys are second hand as well.

Almost all of their Little People toys have been purchased from the local consignment shop as was their bounce and ride zebra, their activity table, several shape sorters and most of their books. With a few lysol wipes, a bleach bath, or a trip through the dish washer, most of the toys look good as new and are sterilized. The girls don't notice the rare crayon mark on their little people animals and they've added a few of their own. I think the last time I added up my savings on the little people sets we have (the zootalkers, farm, castle set, around town set, school, and various vehicles and accessories), I've saved over 196 dollars with the best one being the castle set that is missing one piece (one of the boulders for the catapult) and I bought it for 12.50. It was originally sold from somewhere between 70 and 90 dollars. These kids are too hard on their clothing and toys to spend a lot of money.

Ok. Good to know that most of us are on the same page. This stuff was really in great shape. No stains even a few new onesies. I don't know why my SO was so against it. I think after the baby shower I'll have more than enough little clothes and I'll just need a going home outfit.

I love them from family and friends. Occasionally I'll find cute things at a second hand store. My SIL has several bins in storage of little boy clothes that she's giving to us and I'm SO excited!!!

LOVE hand me downs. This baby will have mostly used stuff--some from a friend who is done having kids (I gave away our baby boy stuff for newborn to 18 months), and I found tons at Once Upon a Child--a lot of it still with tags! I don't buy ripped or stained or really worn/pilled (I hate that). But I saved so much money. I went overboard with my first and I had way too many new clothes. Thank goodness I am now able to use them for my younger daughter. But I feel like I spent too much money for sure. One thing I don't mind buying new is the onesies because I feel like those tend to get stained and dirty easily.

I also love used toys. My kids think going to Goodwill is the greatest, and my daughter is mad I never took her to any garage sales this year, ha ha.

I think the only clothing for either my DD or myself that has not been purchased at a consignment store or handed down from friends has been some of my maternity clothing! Otherwise, I LOVE used clothes. Kids grow so fast and things only fit them for a short while, so, it does not bother me. As for myself, I don't do the whole "style" thing. If it is comfy, I wear it...
I don't think you will need much for a small baby. With my DD I remember passing almost ALL of her clothes on to a friend without her even being able to wear it! SHe had so many cute little outfits, and I kept her in onsies while we were home, so the cute ones only were worn on special occasions!

I love 2nd time around stuff~ Why would I buy a $180.00 swing when I found the exact same one for $30.00 that was used for one year! With twins on the way I am liking hand me downs even better!

I would wash those cute clothes and get them hanging in the closet. They will be so cute hanging there that DH wont mind as much then.
