I work for a large aircraft manufacturer in emergency communications. My company has laid off over 600 employees over the last few months including 2 of my co-workers (who were enroute to be fired any ways ). It comes with a severance package and other services and benefits. The last guy that got laid off recieved 9k and he worked here have the time I have, and he should have just been fired with no perks (called off all the time, etc).

Anyways now they are doing a round of voluntary layoffs before the next involuntary layoffs. I put in for it, I may or may not be eligible and I'm not obligated to anything at the moment.

But as long as I could keep my insurance going to have this baby that would be perfect! I am supposed to start Paramedic school in the spring and I have been going back and forth about getting a part time job while I go through school. It would certianly be easier on me. I'd have my severance package and would qualify for unemployment if I got in a bind.

I have a feeling I won't qualify. A. I have "exceeds expectations" performance reviews and B. We are already short.

But - 1. They layed off the other guys. 2. I just got a raise so I do make more then a new hire 3. with my upcoming maternity leave, they might want to ditch me before then.

So fingers crossed this might be a good opportunity for me!

THis is exactly what I did when I was pregnant with my second baby. They did a round of involuntary and then a round of voluntary. If you went voluntarily you got an additional severance bonus. I was planning on leaving anyway to be a full tiime mom because my babies would only be 13 months apart and I wanted to be with them. I took the deal and was allowed to voluntarily go. I got a great deal and i haven't worked out of the home since! That was almost 11 years ago. I hope you get it.... Good Luck

Sounds like a great opportunity, funny to think a layoff could be great but, it's all about timing and what each person needs at certain points in their lives. Hope it works out!
