What has been the best parenting advice you have received? Who gave it to you?

to trust my own instinct! esp. when it comes to controversial topics (breastfeeding, circumcision, bedsharing, etc.) nobody really told me this per say but just something i've learned after having two kids. mama knows best

That it's okay to sleep the baby on his stomach. That we're a whole generation of babies slept on our stomach, and we all turned out fine, to stop worrying, and do what we need to do to get some sleep. Best advice ever, given by my mom and my friend. After I started sleeping arthur on his stomach, he started sleeping through the night...in his crib!

Thank you *Kiliki* for the beautiful siggy

Let your little kids help with cooking and chores, even though it is slower and more work for you now, it will pay off. I read it in a book, I think... My older children can help with housework, do their own laundry, babysit, cook a real meal, even make bread from scratch. Due, in part, to the fact that I allowed them to help when they were young and willing/interested.

^^ that is indeed great advice!!! My toddler is just at the age of wanting to "help" but really just making a mess and make everything take longer. I have been trying to have her help as much as possible even though sometimes I just want to get it done without any interference but you are so right.

I guess the best advice I got (and I feel like you hear this a lot but mostly tend to ignore it) is, enjoy it. They grow up so fast. The days are long but the years are short. It just becomes more true for me all the time. I try really hard to find/create those little moments where everything feels just right and I'm just enjoying my baby. I feel like it is easier to do it with #2 because I am not so nervous about baby care and also I know that I *will* miss the nurse naps and the limp little sleeping baby drooling on my shoulder.

Trust your instincts. I think that really came from some moms on JM. If I had listened to what friends and family were telling me, I am not sure I could have managed having a challenging baby.
