So in early January we are leaving for Cuba for a month, so I am busy making lists and ensuring that we have absolutely everything we need while we are there (cause once we're there, there's definitely no running to Wal-Mart or Toys 'r Us to get whatever is missing!)

I'm assuming that some of those days are going to be pretty hot and my in-laws don't have any air conditioning, so a good way to cool down would be to go for a swim. I think the pool will be okay, but what about the ocean? Is the salt an issue for their skin?

Also, for you mamas who have brought your babies swimming, do you just put on a regular disposable diaper or do you have the swim diapers? I guess it doesn't matter much if the diaper leaks in the ocean, but I certainly wouldn't want it to leak in a pool.

I believe my mother is buying Audrey a swim nappy for Christmas, haha.

Given what happens to sanitary pads when immersed in water, I don't thing a regular nappy would be too comfortable in the water.

definitely swim diaper. You can get reusable ones or disposable ones. They wont absorb water and blow up like a regular diaper. They aren't meant to keep pee in, just poop. I dont think anything can truly keep all the pee in. In pools, it's sanitized (or whatever) by the chlorine.

I dont think saltwater would cause any issues, just make sure he doesnt drink a bunch of it! (or pool water)

My friend had her little guy in the salt water this summer and he was only 3 months then. He had no problems whatsoever but had to be watched so her wouldn't drink a lot of it. If anything, I would get a blow up round floaty to put the baby in. The sides would ensure that he doesn't get a fist full of water of lean too far forward and swallow a lot of it.
