We're gonna be out of town for just over three weeks, and while I don't want to travel with all of our cloth diapers, I'd rather not have to use disposables for the whole trip.

We'll be staying in an apartment and will have access to a washing machine (but not a dryer), so I'm thinking of bringing maybe 5 of the pocket diapers with inserts (that we use primarily at night or for particularly long outings) and 5 of the two-in-ones, for which we can re-use the shells (they dry quickly anyway), and have more soakers than we do diapers.

I THINK this would allow us to use the cloth diapers maybe 70% of the time, but if anyone has experience, has read anything about it, has any other ideas, etc., I'd be happy to hear them!

lurking...we're getting ready to leave tonight for a week. it'll be a 22 hr drive and we have 2 girls in diapers. we have the disposable inserts (we use gdiapers) so we just have to flush the insert and put a new one during the trip, but we're taking the cloth inserts for while we are there and have a washing machine available. just figure out how many you're willing to keep up with while you're away and use disposables for the rest of the time. have a safe trip and enjoy

I was also going to suggest flushable liners. They will make the cleanup easier while you are on your trip. Have fun!!

We use the flushable liners all the time! They're amazing.

We have never used the disposable liners, what a great idea! We just take ours with and change as normal. As long as it's not to hot and they won't stink I'd say go for it!

I think your plan of a few pockets and the rest AI2s is a good plan. I never much liked the disposable inserts. Since its fairly easy for you to wash and and hang the cloth ones, I'd choose that route. I'd bring all the AI2 inserts that you have, since you'll be hanging to dry, you'll want to allow enough time for that. But your plan sounds fine. I've done both 100% cloth on long trips and 100% disposable, it just depends on your desires and access. When we flew, we used disposable and bought them when we got there. When I've driven, I usually stick with cloth. The washer is the essential part. Make sure you bring your detergent too (or buy it there). I accidently forgot it once and my diapers stunk when I got back home (I was using the stuff my aunt had).
