Marcos has always been a very clingy baby since birth and I've been told that this will pass. However, he's turning 9 months this week, is able to crawl, and he still will not play on his own. Even if he is on the playmat filled with toys and I am sitting there right beside him, he refuses to play and do his own thing. He'll scream and cry and try to crawl right on top of me. It's exhausting.

Also, now that he is crawling, I need to put him in his pack & play throughout the day because he is very quick I cannot keep up with him every single moment of the day. He refuses to play in there (even though I'm sitting right beside it and he can see me), and will cry until I pick him up.

Any tips on dealing with a clingy baby?

No tips really because mine is super clingy too. When we put him in the playyard he just pulls up on the side and screams the whole time. Occasionally, when he's in a good mood he'll play by himself (but never in the playyard) so I take advantage of those times and fold laundry in the same room or wash dishes or something where I can still keep an eye on him.

Oh man I totally know how exuasting that can be!! I know that from my experience, that some babies are just clingy period. DD1, DD3 were very clingy and DD1 had my breast in her mouth 24/7 literally!

If he is just a super lovey mommies boy then not alot you can do except just keep encouraging self play. Maybe let him fuss ( not cry ) just a tad and clap and sing when he starts to get fussy about being alone but next to you.

Try to distract him from that and dont show your upset. Also if there are any other babies or small children that he can play with often together may help?

Hope things get easier soon for you, he just knows he has a great mommy and wants to be close to that!

Audrey is pretty independent but she does hate the pack and play. I just make interesting barriers around things I don't want her to get into with dining chairs.
