I see the high risk OB today at 2:30pm. My OB said it was "just a consultation". I had GD with my DD and they didn't do this so it's weird to me. My OB just referred me to the Diabetes Education department. I asked about just skipping the glucose test this time and just having a diagnosis of GD since I have a history of it and I know I have it/will have it again. When my OB did my initial blood work, my AC1 was in the "pre diabetic" range so she said they can't just diagnose me, but wants me to meet with the high risk OB before moving on with GD testing. She said normally if you have a history of GD, they test you around 20w at her office instead of the typical 28w. I'd rather make sure my blood sugar is under control before 20w, KWIM?

I think she is trying to see if the high risk OB wants to go ahead and have me do the 1 hour test and if I fail it, just do a GD diagnosis and move on with the finger pricking and carb counting. I just DO NOT want to do the 3 hour test if I fail the 1 hour. With my DD, it made me so horribly sick and that was after I was through with the pregnancy sickness...so I can't imagine how I would feel when I have to eat something small quickly after I wake up or I will so sick. There's no way I could fast for that long...

With my DD, I barely failed the 1 hour. Then I failed 2 out of 4 blood draws for the 3 hour so I was "barely" diagnosed as GD, but still diagnosed. Without the diagnosis, insurance won't cover the supplies.

Anyone else have GD, think you'll have it, or have to see a high risk OB for GD?

I didn't have GD with first but was worried that I would. I also hated the testing - it was not a fun time. I hope your apt goes well today and that you only have to take the 1 hour test. KUP on how it goes. GOOD LUCK!!

I have not had it. The 1 hour wasn't bad for me, I hope they don't make you do the 3 hour!

I just had an ultrasound which I wasn't expecting. that was a nice surprise!

They're also having me do the one hour glucose test today. So i did that and am now waiting for the blood draw at 3:45. My tummy already feels icky, bleh.

But I also schedule my next appt which also includes ultrasound so I'll get to see gender in six weeks! So excited.

I'm hoping you don't have it at all, but if you do, I hope this test proves it and you can be done. Gender in 6 weeks! Eeep!
