My 5 mo old was fed scrambled eggs this morning on accident. Her two yr old sister was sharing while I went to the kitchen to get a spoon for suzies pears. We just now started food and she has only had baby food twice: pears.

Anyhow, within a minute she was coughing weird and her face broke out around her eyes and mouth. In ten minutes she had hives spreading and 25 min after ( when I reached the ER) her whole body from head to between every toe was covered solid in red hives.

They gave her an epi shot and benadryl but I left with so many questions. I EBF so should I stop eggs even though I haven't seen any skin probs diarrhea or asthma? Should I get her tested since her reaction was SO fast? Is it likely she is allergic to other foods because of this allergy?

Family history: mil had egg and milk allergy
Dh had egg, wheat, peanut butter, and dairy allergy
I have no allergies/ issues
Avis (dd1) has eczema
Violates has asthma
Dh still has seasonal and pet allergies asthma and excema

I posted to you on the Aug board as well, but you should have to be exposed to something first before developing antibodies for it. So I am wondering if she could be exposed to tiny amounts of eggs in something else prior to yesterday. Steven has a fish allergy and I think we had him tested for everything. I would talk to your pediatrician. I would get her tested for sure. I know with Steven he definitely had a reaction. It was very, very obvious, but we still had him tested. I would also have her tested for other allergens while you are at it. Sometimes kids have multiple food allergies. Of course, I'm not sure if she'd have to be exposed to these foods first to be able to test positive for them. I'd talk to your pediatrician either way about all of this. I'd also want to know how closely you will need to read labels too. And find out about the likelihood of her outgrowing it and ways that you can safely determine if she has outgrown it.
