I am new to this board but not JM. I have a question about my youngest. She will be 5 this month. She had her first patch of eczema pop up when she was about 1 1/2 - 2 years old. It showed up on her chest and looked like ringworm to myself and DH. The doc said that it was eczema told us to use hydrocortizone cream with a good lotion. so that didn't work. She then wrote a script for a cream. DD screams and says that it burns when we use it. So about a year ago I decided to do my own research and found that certain foods can cause this. So we noticed that she would break out when she started to consume more dairy products. So we took her off of dairy put her on soy milk and seemed to work. A few months ago she started breaking out more and was concerned she was getting dairy products when I wasnt around. That isnt the case. Soy is also one of the foods that can cause it too. So this week I took her off of the soy milk put her on rice milk and have told the school that she is not to have dairy, soy or nut products (she would only get nut products if she chose pbj for lunch). The only other thing left to get rid of out of her diet is wheat (gluten). I have noticed that since the switch from the soy to rice milk she is still breaking out and has several spots on her neck. Im nervous about going gluten free as well as everything else and the expense of the different food. Is it more expensive to eat gluten free? Should I take her to see an allergist? Anyone else who has dealt with this any advice would be great.

I would take her to an allergist and a dermatologist.

Get on Gluten Free society on the web. He is the best on Gluten. It is not really more expensive. You just learn to cut out all the processed food and eat real food instead. I love being gluten free. For snacks I just eat fruits and veggies and for meals I eat meals and like a potato or squash for starch. So easy.

Have you found out anything yet? Kids can be allergic to strange things...not the typical allergens so I would definitely get her tested. There are also a couple of other conditions a child can have that mimics food allergy but isn't a true "Ige" reaction.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb...I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together...Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139: 13-16
