So I took out a book on the Billings Method and it's brilliant.. what an interesting read!! Right now I've only really been temping.. not so much looking for CM patterns (sorry if TMI).. but after reading even the first chapter of this book -- I'm reconsidering...

Shawna -- how do I go about finding a teacher in my area?

I was just reading about this method too! I was amazed because I was considering temping but this seems so much easier because oddly enough this is something I take note of any way. This method seems like it just comes naturally to me. I think this is going to be my method of choice and I can't wait to read more about it.

I like it too....obviously! We tried 3 NFP Methods (Billings, Serena, and Creighton) and we liked Billings the best and that's why I went for the training to teach it too!

Oh gosh, did your instructor conduct a pregnancy investigation to figure out what happened? There's a huge report we have to send to Australia if the pregnancy is a true method failure (accurate charting + all rules followed and pregnancy still occurs). I've personally never seen one myself.

The Billings Ovulation Method is one of the many forms of Natural Family Planning. It's a system that involves a very specific way of observing and evaluating cervical mucus. Clinical trials found it to be 99.6% effective with proper training.

The different forms of Natural Family Planning can be thought of like sports. There are different ways to make your fertility observations, different guidelines for avoiding pregnancy, different ways of charting. So Billings is like soccer, the Creighton Model is like basketcall, the Sympto Thermal Method from Northwest Family Services is like hockey, the Sympto Thermal Method from the Couple to Couple League is like football. Soccer and basketball both involve a ball and a net, but they are NOT the same sport. Just like Billings and Creighton are both mucus-only methods, they are very different charting systems - with different strategies, objectives, and guidelines - just like soccer and basketball.

You can check out the Resource Sticky, there is an NFP Method Comparison at the bottom that explains all the different methods and how they compare to one another.

No, no it's really very simple! It just makes a world of difference to have an instructor walk you through it as opposed to trying to figure it all out all by yourself. Are you interested in taking a class or meeting up with a teacher?
