I'm already not looking forward to next year, this is my last year with dad. And I'm seperated from him by 3/4 of the country! I'm probably going to end up making his card because I can never find one that says everything I need it to. I like your idea of a poem and visiting the grave. I believe your dad will be waiting, and watching you all day. Just because it's a special day!
Mom to 3 (1998, 2000, and 2009), step-mom to 1 (1995), two four-legged babies who bark, wife and full time student.
My days are busy, my house is messy, and my heart is full!

i think that is a beautiful idea. this will be my second fathers day without my dad and i am kinda dreading it. its has become a painful reminder of how much i do miss him, but at the same time, I am trying to focus on celebrating what a tremendous father he was.

I think that's a wonderful idea. To be honest I have never remembered when fathers day is because its been my 11th one without him and I just never celebrated it after he died. Now that I am ttc it feels so much harder to face it. I've arranged for my aunt to bring him flowers and hopefully leave the picture I was planning on setting out there for him hoping he'll see it.

I am dreading it too. I think your idea sounds like a great one. We just made our funeral arrangements yesterday so I'm not sure if the ashes will be ready by Fathers Day or not, but I didn't choose to keep some anyhow so I guess it doesn't matter. I think I might just take my DH and DD to the beach that day because my dad loved the beach and so does my family. He also loved IHOP so maybe we will go have breakfast in remembrance of him. It's just so fresh, it hurts to think about...

To be honest, I had totally forgotten about Father's Day until someone mentioned it yesterday. This is my first year without my Dad, but DH's father has been gone 10 years now, so he's used to not making a big deal of it. I think we'll just treat it as any other day since we don't live near where our Dads are buried. For us it will be best to just be "normal"---whatever that means.
