Hi ladies I am Tammy married to Andy momma to Tristan 9 Anya 6 and Akasha 2

My son Tristan is my adhd child. From the day he entered school it has been and uphill battle. He was not allowed to attend Kindergarden ft beause the teacher could not handle him. He talked to much and fidgetted too much. I found after going and sitting in class that part of the prob was that the teacher lacked the abilitly to deal with 5 year olds. We moved him to a new class and that seemed to help. In the first grade he had a wonderful teacher that has a child with adha and she worked with him and made the observations and suggestion of adha. That year I got him the help he needed.

He has been on Concerta since and in the last year has had to have gradual increases most recent from 27 mg to 36 mg. This change has not made much of an improvement. I have been doing a lot of research and talking to the doctor. My son is not a meat eater unless you count chicken nuggets from mcdonalds which I dont, he also does not eat fruits and veggies. The suggestion has been made to give him a multi vitaman with omega 3 twice a day and whey protien shake twice a day. I beleive that with what I am readng that this may help in some of the area that he is still having issues with.

I also end his day with a melatonin over the counter 10 mg supplament to help him in the area of bed time as I have read on a few post here that time of the day seems to be the hardest. I have him take that at around 5p and by 8-9 he is knocked out, and wakes up fully refreshed and no fighting in the am.

I am hoping that with the addition of these supplaments thing will start to look up I am sure to keep you all updated
Thank you Jaidynsmum for the amazing Siggy

Welcome Tammy!! Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I have been battling sickness. I am Linda, mommy to 3, including a 6 year old with autism and ADHD and a 5 year old who most likely has ADHD. And I have ADHD myself.
I have heard many wonderful things about melatonin, but my kids happen to be one's who can't take it. When I did give it to them, they would fall asleep easy but then they were up playing in the middle of the night (which would make for a bad day due to lack of sleep). Now that my kids are a little older bed time is much easier so I don't feel they would need melatonin but a year ago I would have liked very much for it to have worked!
I have no experience with Concerta (I take Adderall and was on ritalin as a child) but I know that with my doc, after uping the dose so much he usually tries a different med (something you may want to look into since this last increase doesn't seem to be helping).
I look forward to getting to know you and your family better. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the Getting to know you thread.

Hi and welcome! My oldest son was on Concerta from ages 9-10. He said it did not help him at all and stopped taking it. Adderall seems to work in my house.

It is a lot of trial and error finding the right meds and dosage for our children. ((hugs))
