Hi Ladies,
Today was my 6 year olds 2nd day on 18 mg of concerta. I'm VERY concerned that we are not doing the right thing.

She was really "goofy" last night. I wasn't able to get the pill in her until about 12noon. Finally she took it and realized it was no big thing. Well she woke me up three times last night just to tell me things. Like.."Mom, look the lights from the city are not as bright as usual, I think some are broken. Look out the window." Then we got up this morning and she was up and dressed, WHICH NEVER HAPPENS. I can't hardly get her out of bed in the mornings...

Then today she took her pill around 8am... then she was OFF THE WALL until about 1pm. I mean... CRAZY SAUCE. She is NEVER like this. She couldn't stop talking. At one point she was tapping my husband on his leg going, dad dad dad dad dad dad etc. Then she told me the walls looked "soft" and "Fuzzy."

She finally calmed down around 1pm. I tried putting her to bed (7pm) it's now almost 11 pm and she is wide awake.

I'm totally freaked out.

I would give a call to her doc and see what he wants you to do. I've don't have any experience with concerta but it seems to me like the meds are making her "high" which I haven't seen before but it's possible.

My son was taking Concerta for 4 years. I have never seen him miss behave while on Concerta. It actually worked right away for him, but the only concern I have with this medication and the reason why I took him off was because he was not developing normally. He would only gain 1 - 2 pounds a year and was not growing. He's almost 12 yrs old and was 59 pounds. Once he came off the medication he gained 7 pounds in 2 months. You are going to notice your child eating less and losing weight fast.

I had never seen my son have a reaction like that when we first put him on the Concerta. I know it did take about a month to work into his system and to see results from it.

I would definitely consult wth the doctor in this regard.

Definately call your doctor. My son acted a little loopy on it for the first week but nothing like you describe. With ADHD meds sometimes it takes a whole lot of trial and errors to get the right meds and doses.
