Brandi-- I dont care too much for the hospital gowns because they always show some part of my back end. I go to walmart and get the t-shirt like gowns...and wear them that way it is easy for the doctor/nurse to check the incision and my pad without having to take my pants off every time...

I wore the hospital gown and was fine with that, but I did bring my own underwear. They give you those funky mesh ones! Make sure the underwear are high waisted. You won't want anything near the incision. When I was ready to go home I wore a dress with an empire waist and that was comfortable as well. Congratulations! I loved my c section expeience.

I brought nursing nightgowns with my first two c-sections. I can't stand the hospital gowns b/c they make me really hot. I didn't breastfeed this time, so I just brought big night shirts and they worked well.

Definitely a night gown of some sort if you don't want to wear the hospital gown. I had purchased really cute PJ's (tank top and pants) to wear at the hospital and couldn't because my belly was sore and the elastic would have been bothersome. Not to mention you have to be checked regularly, and that would be a hassle to take the bottoms off every time. Go comfy!

Honestly, this was NOT something I actually put any thought into! So glad I saw this thread! Of course, it means more shopping... like that's a bad thing! haha

However, when I had DS, my going home outfit was a dress with an empire waist as well. I really didn't want to irritate my incision site anymore than was necessary.

I know this thread is old but I thought I'd answer for future people anyway.

I wore the gown for the first 2 days. On day 3, I wore a large night gown shirt part of the time. And part of the time I wore maternity yoga pants (with a fold down waist) and a maternity t-shirt.

For a month at home, I pretty much lived in comfortable night shirts because I didn't like things against my incision. I also sent my husband shopping many times to get me different types of underwear until we could find a type that was comfortable. Such a good husband.
