Hi Jess! Welcome to TTC While Breastfeeding - I have a 4 month old son myself and we're looking to TTC #2. We're not actively tracking my ovulation but not preventing either, but just wanted to wish you good luck. I have heard that BFing for the first 3 months exclusively is 98% effective as BC, but that after you start introducing solids that the effectiveness is reduced. Google breastfeeding and conceiving and you'll get a lot of advice/help! Hope you get a BFP soon!

Thanks for the advice! I'll check it out. We are in the same boat as you - not tracking, but not preventing either - we'll see.

Breastfeeding is an effective form of birth control for the first six months as long as you are nursing through the night, not offering solids, bottles, pacifiers. Unless you have already gotten your cycle back, then it is no longer effective and you have a greater chance of becoming fertile again. Lots of luck!

Welcome! Ditto to the PP. Honestly it differs alot from woman to woman. Alot of women will have their fertility return very soon after giving birth while others won't see it return til after they've weaned completely. I would just go with the flow for awhile but if not start charting and maybe get some OPKs to see if and when you are ovulating. Good luck!!!
