Hi everyone. So here is my scenario: I've been breastfeeding since my daughter was born in January 2008. Last month I got my period back and the last time I had a period before that was right before I got pregnant in April 07. So its been over 2 years between periods. Ok so, normally my cycles are every 28 days, like clockwork. So its been about 28 days and still no period. I still breastfeed my daughter when she wants, which is maybe twice a day for a few minutes, (not very much at all anymore). I actually would have expected my period to return alot sooner, since I have not been exclusively breastfeeding for quite some time. We are not actively TTC, but we aren't preventing either. I took an HPT today and it was negative, so I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. Anyway, my question is, should I expect my cycles to be erratic until I stop bf-ing altogether? Sorry for the long explanation

I went 73 days between my 1st PPAF and my 2nd. Then 43 days between my 2nd and 3rd. My cycles have now settled back into the normal 32-36 dya randge for me but it took 5 cycles.

It can be fustrating! But hang in there. Your body is just regulating itself back out. Having a baby changes us so much.

(congrats on AF coming back BTW)

Wow, 73 days?! I hope I don't have to wait that long for my next period! Thanks for answering my question. When I didn't get my period on time, I figured that it may take a bit to get back to normal.

Before I had Walter, my cycles were like yours. Textbook 28 days. Well I got my first period when Walter was 15 months. That cycle lasted 41 days! Then I got my second period, and got pregnant 2 weeks later! I definitely thought I would be all irregular for awhile because of that 41 day cycle, so I started charting. I ovulated on CD 15, like the old days. So you never know.

p.s. Stop by the Jan 08 playroom and say hi!
mama to 5 yr old DS1 , 3 year old DS2 , and nursling DD .

Hi again everyone! Just a little update: I got my 2nd period after 35 days! So it was a week later than expected. Thank God I didn't have to wait too long. Hopefully it will return to my normal 28 day cycle.

Hey! Just gonna add that I breastfed my daughter until 35mths (almost 3yrs!) and my PPAF came when she was 9mths old. I can't remember exactly but I think thet were regular around the 30-35 mark until I miscarried (Dec07) and since then been shorter rather than longer - between 23 and 31 days but mostly around 27-29. A variation of 7 days isn't medically considered irregular though so don't expect exact 28 day cycles!

Seperated June 2010 from my husband. One daughter DOB 26/07/2006. BFP 06/01/2011, due september but 'high risk' for premature birth.

Hi. Im Jolene. 31 years old. I suffered three years of a short luteal phase and didnt think I could get pregnant again without medical assistance but fell pregnant by accident and naturally. I am really happy and excited to be having a baby although knowing Im going it alone this time is a bit daunting and scary!
