I have a picture of a mother and daughter that I want to change the background on. I have tried extracting them and placing them on a black background. The edges are too harsh. Is there a way to soften around them or a different way to extract them from the picture?

Thanks for any advice

I'm not familiar with Photoshop Elements. I use Photoshop CS2, but if it is the same, you may want to try giving the cut-out a feathered edge, maybe a 1-2, or more depending on how sharp the edges are.

i usually use the lasso tool aroung the picture but do it wider - then you can feather the edges alot to soften them.
