My comp ex dh built no longer works and it had CS5 Photoshop on it. He won't give me the disc to put on a new comp and I don't have the money to buy new copy so what is.a good editing program to edit my family Christmas pictures my future mil took for our Christmas cards?

Honestly, download it using a torrent. I know its illegal, but technically your family already owns it right? You might have trouble getting a good version of CS5 but there are plenty working versions of CS3 out there.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, GIMP is free and gets the job done too.

Paint.net also works though some special features is not included such as cone stamp, content aware and others. But, cropping, effects and color editing (not specific) is great.
