Ok, I just booked a session for a group of 28 people on Christmas Eve morning. It will be in a house that I have never been to before, in a huge living room with a Christmas tree and fireplace. What do I do? Should I buy a flash? I can't rely on natural light, and I only own one softbox. This could be a HUGE money maker (and exposure) and I don't want to mess up! I also want to practice beforehand if I have to invest some money in something.
Advice? Thanks!

Have to fireplace going for sure - it will make the colours in the room warmer.

Soft box will be good but yeah maybe a flash with a diffuser aimed up. You might need some help with getting someone maybe to hold a reflector to spread some more light into dark spaces.

Good luck, sounds like a big job.

You sound like me. I have a group of 25 the day after thanksgiving. In a house, with a fireplace.

I am actually getting a flash with a diffuser, there will not be room for lighting.

I would go with a flash + softbox kit on it (same as a diffuser I guess). You can also mount speedlites on stands with the softbox kit for more lighting flexibility.
Good luck!!
