I really want to surprise my boyfriend with a new camera for Christmas. My ideal price range is around $300, because I know eventually he'd like accessories and such for it. I am willing to spend a little more, if someone swears by their camera and highly recommends it.

He has been saying he wants a camera, more like the style of the old 35mm (he took photography in highschool and misses his old 35mm). Something that is solid in your hands and not the little credit card style cameras that are popping up everywhere. His other requirement is a view finder. He hates having to use the screen to line up a shoot, plus it eats up battery life. I know he'll eventually want lenses for it, which we could splurge on around March.

So..... Does anyone have a camera that they would recommend? Or an idea of a camera in my price range that sounds like what the man would like??

Hmmm, I don't know, I'm not sure if you can get a really good SLR for $300...maybe someone else will have a suggestion for you.

Mine was twice that much but it's about the best Canon out there. I so do love it! I have a Rebel XT 350. Any Digi Canon camera you get with a changable lens will allow you to change lenses with any Canon from five yrs ago to ten years from now. So even if you can't get the best Canon camera right now, you can always upgrade the camera later and not have to buy new lenses.
