Well I am waiting for the camera that my dh bought me for christmas to come in the mail anyday now. It is a Canon Eos Rebel XTi. They are pricey though - I warn you. But if you get it from ebay, it comes as a package. It is a brand new model - came out in October (I think or maybe it was September). Brand new w/t the 18-55mm lens is about 700-800 - that is just the body. With the lens it is about 900 or something (all estimates as I can't quite remember the prices I was quoted). But dh just bought me a package for $984 (not including the shipping) and it comes with 3 lens (a wide angle, 18-55mm, and 70-300mm), tripod, hard case, soft case, 3 filter kit, lens cleaning kit, 1 GB memory (will be upgrading mind you as it only takes about 300 pics), flash card reader, digital flash and then ofcourse the camera package (it comes with the battery, manuals, cables, battery and charger). They have really good deals on ebay. All buy now options. The seller is sunshineelec (sunshine electronics)/digital-shopping-networks (dsn). But when you are looking for it on ebay, just type in canon digital rebel xti and you will get lots of hits - mostly from the seller I mentioned. They are the same seller, even though they have 2 different ebay names. I had bought one package at first through dsn, but when phoning in there message was for sunshine electronics. Asked the guy about this and they are the same.
Anyway, I know that it is a good camera. It is an upgrade from the Canon eos digital rebel XT. Alot of the same features (so if the XTi is to expensive, the XT is also a great model - that was the one I wanted till I found out about the XTi), but it also has some new features aswell. The XT only has a display screen of 1.8 where as the XTi is 2.5. The XT has 8.0 MP, the XTi has 10.1.
Anyway just thought I would share a good camera with you since you were asking. Not sure what your budget was, but this is a good camera. All of Canon's cameras are good though, so if you do find one that you like, check ebay out. The seller I mentioned has packages for lots of different cameras, at all sorts of price ranges - and all are still cheaper then just buying the camera from the local store - even with the shipping costs. The package that I got was worth over 3000 and I got it for under 1000 (minus the shipping). Let me know if you need anymore details.

Be very careful if you decide to buy off Ebay though, I've heard of many people getting scammed on the cameras and not getting what they paid for or what they thought they were paying for...sometimes if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
