Did anyone else lose power on the East coast (US) this weekend? I was in the middle of replying to something on the board Friday night, and out it went for hours. It's a little pathetic how fast we got bored with sitting around in the dark.
So then we went to DH's grandma's house with no internet, and I'm sure no wireless connections anywhere for 50 miles (she's 87 and lives in rural North Carolina). I was starting to have major JM withdrawal by this afternoon, so I'm glad we're back and I can catch up.
Actually, while we were there DH's grandma and I talked about my losses. She never had a mc, but it took her seven years (!) to conceive. She told me that because of that, she never asks people, "So, when are you going to have kids?", etc., like we all get from time to time. The interesting part to me was just how angry she still was, 60 years later, that people had asked her that while they were trying so hard to conceive.

Sorry about the power, but I am glad you had such a good talk with Dh's gma...it is strange when we think how hard it is for us in the age of information...how much harder it would have been then to deal with this.
My mom has told me (I remember thinking it was very funny at the time) - that when she was growing up "pregnant" was considered a bad word & you had to talk aroud it...like "expecting" or "in the family way"...and she said it was NEVER mentioned to anyone outside maybe a mother or husband until you were showing - because of all the infant mortality & mc. It's very sad when I think of it now. I am so glad things seem to be moving in the right direction & by the time we are all mom's, with perhaps grown daughters...if heaven forbid they ever suffer this - maybe it won't be taboo at all - perhaps people will know how to help them & what to do. That is my hope anyway.

I'm glad you're back! And glad you had such a good heart-to-heart with DH's gma. I'm so glad that we now have places like JM to find others who have had similar experiences and where we can open up about them for learning and support. The generations before us must have either been incredibly strong to go through things on their own or had really high rates of substance abuse/depression/etc. I'm thankful everyday for my JM friends!
Do not sorrow; the joy of the Lord is your strength." Neh. 8:10
