At 4:00 pm today I had my midwife appt. It was with one of the midwives I had never met before. Well apparently my blood pressure was high so I had to have blood work taken and then have to do a 24 hour urine test and then bring it to the lab at the hospital. I then have to go back on Thursday for them to recheck my blood pressure and hopefully review the results of all of the tests if they are back by then. I've had a really bad headache the last couple of days and she said that is usually linked to high blood pressure.

This is not at all what I was expecting...every appt. I have had this entire pregnancy and my last were uneventful, regular appts. The Midwife told me that if my blood pressure is in fact high...I may then have to be taken off of work and then induced at 39 weeks. I do NOT want to be induced. I have heard it is harder, but not impossible, to have a med-free birth...well technically it isn't med-free since the inducing involves meds, right? I'm just really nervous now and that doesn't help my blood pressure I'm sure!

Anyone else go through anything similar?

I'm so sorry your appointment didn't go well! I need to look on here because I know there is a diet you can do that can help with your high BP. I gave in to having pitocin with my son and I still delivered him without any pain meds. I consider that to be a natural birth despite the pitocin. I know it wasn't completely drug free but I still consider it to be a natural birth...

the only things I know of to help with HBP is to drink tons and tons of water and cut out salt. Sometimes you have to do your own legwork in these matters because the office doesn't seem to offer this info up. I saw midwives for my pregnancy and had tons of protein in my urine, but they never told me what to do to stay healthy, only to call them if it got worse. Luckily my Doula told me what to do.

I hope things get better for ya. Hit that water!!

Aw I'm sorry you had a bad appointment!! I totally know how you feel, because up until MY first midwife appointment I had had perfect everything and now all of a sudden there's something about proteins in my pee and I have to take liquid iron.. It's very disheartening! *hugs*
I have heard that the drug they use to speed up labor can make the contractions worse, but I know plenty of women who have made it through it naturally! It makes things go faster too though so even if the pain is worse, it's also faster. Just hang in there don't let fear get the better of you, easier said than done, believe me I know!

Nature is there for you.

I'm sorry that your appointment didn't go great. Like Cheryl said, drink lots of water, cut your salt intake, and try to take it easy. Hopefully your next appointment will be better.

Did they recheck your BP? If it hasn't been high before maybe it was just a isolated incident. Hope all the blood work comes back okay!
