I have found another reason why I love midwifery care and my midwives in general (Not that I needed one!)

I found out today that I am negative this pregnancy for GBS! Yay! It's such a small thing, but that was a negative aspect of my labor with Abigial. The antibiotics were painful, I hated being hooked up the IV and we developed thrush that continued for 4 months because of them. I had the option this pregnancy of Hybicleanse, which is a vaginal rinse you use during labor, if you are positive, but even that doesn't sound all that appealing. Even the test was optional, but I decided I wanted to know for sure if I was positive or not, becuase it's weighed on my mind the whole pregnancy.
When I was seeing an OB at the beginning of this pregnancy, they told me at my first appointment I would automatically be treated with antibiotics during labor since I was positive in a previous pregnancy. I strongly disagreed with that, because I know GBS can come and go constantly and it's silly not to even test. The nurse had told me it wasn't even an option though, they wouldn't offer me the test.
I'm so glad I switched to the birth center and this just justifies for me once more that I made the right choice. It also proves how wrong OBs can be with the way they treat certain things during pregnancy.

YAY! Sounds like just another great reason to see a midwife! You would think a doctor should know that the way you test for GBS can vary w/ each pregnancy, geez!
