pretty good article! I didn't like how the one doula won't do hospital births and said it in the article... It's good for her to realize her boundries, but I don't think the article was the place to share that.

I also don't like doulas saying you con't make plans... I still make plans! sure- sometimes I have to cancel, or leave before I wanted to, but I'm not going to stop living just b/c I *could* be called away! And suprisingly enough- babies have so far been quite accomidating

The article was pretty good, but I will agree with Cheryl, there were a few points in there that surprised me.

I was in a staffing meeting today and was talking with the Director of one of the "Birth Centers" or as I like to refer to it "a glorified L&D unit." She said that they have started hiring doulas, but they call them "labor assistants" because women don't understand what doulas are!!!!! I was glad to hear that they are offering the extra services to encourage a natural birth, but I was shocked at the fact that they would essentially re-name these professionals rather than educating the patients!

*Thank you kiliki for the siggy!*

Yeah, there were a few things in the article that bothered me too but mostly I hope that it lets women know about doulas and that they have that option when they are giving birth.
