Hi Ladies!
So, I made DH watch ‘the business of being born’ yesterday. Before he was totally against a homebirth but was willing to consider a birthing center (closest is about 30-45 min away). He was still teetering though.
But after the movie, he is now willing to look into a homebirth IF I can find a midwife. That may end up being a problem as I haven’t been able to find one locally. But since I’m not even officially pregnant yet (2ww) I might get lucky.

So I recommend the movie for anyone who’s DH is not so sure about homebirth or even natural birth.

My birth center is about 40 minutes away, so, if you cannot find a midwife to do a homebirth, the birth center would be a good second choice for you

I am so glad your DH came around after watching that, it really is a great documentary.

Yay for DH agreeing to a homebirth!! Try calling the birth center and talking to the midwives, they may come to you for the birth... the midwives at my BC come to you if you want a home birth. It's always worth a shot, the worst that they can say is no. Good luck!!

I also watched that movie with my husband. He was amazed at the difference of DD's birth at a free standing birth center with a CNM vs. the births of his other children in the hospital with MDs. This time I have opted for a hospital birth with a CNM since we are in a new state and the nearest birth center is about an hour away. My labor with DD, my first, was very short, 4 hours from first contraction to her birth. I don't want to risk the hour to the birth center, not to mention being in the car is the last place I want to be while in labor. I was set on a CNM and I could not find one in my town that did home births, so hospital it is. I really like my midwife and trust her ability to give us the birth we desire at the hospital.
