This is my first child and I am *hoping* to do it natural. If you ladies don't mind, I would love to join your board for advice and support. I am due Oct 4th, so I still have time to prepare for birth. Thanks!

Part of the reason i wanted to join this board was to learn how to prepare. I think that i am going to buy some books to read, any recommendations? I want to at least labor in a tub, and maybe even birth in a tub, but i haven't decided on that yet. I am not totally against pain medication, but would prefer to not go that route unless it is necessary. I will be giving birth in a hospital. I need to create a birth plan so that i know that my dr is on board with my choices. I need to do lots more research to officially make my birth plan. I'm excited to start this process.

Sounds like you are making some good preparations! Some ladies here have done hypnobirthing, bradley method, or lamaze. You can look into those. Welcome!

Momma to Brynn 10/2/2002 (midwife at hospital)
Emme 5/26/2008 (midwife at freestanding birth center)
Pierce 11/28/2009 (midwife at freestanding birth center)
and Surprise Baby #4 due 11/13/2011

Congratulations and welcome to the NCB board! We are thrilled to have you! I'm Cindy, mommy to Bryson (18 months) and expecting our second later in May. I think you're off to a great start! I would highly recommend Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth as one of the books you read. I was able to get it from my local library so that may be an option for you if you don't want to buy a ton of books. I used Hypnobirthing for my son's birth and loved it but I've heard that Hypnobabies is even better so you may like one of those.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. So glad you joined us!
