Hi there, my husband and I are TTC our first I would like to try and go au natural but want to make sure I am 100% prepared. That being said- has anyone used/experienced any form of hypnosis (or anything similar) while in labor?

The good, bad, and otherwise would be more than welcome! Thanks!

I used hypnobirthing (my hospital I birthed in offered the class) and I really liked. It worked very well for me. But, I have heard that hypnobabies has a higher effective rate.
Hypnobirthing basically just teaches you relaxation and visualization techniques while hypnobabies is more of actual medical hypnosis. Hypnobirthing also does not teach any stages of labor of anything like it, it is all relaxation and visualization. So, if you want something that teaches more of the actual stages of labor and that type of thing, you would want to go with hypnobabies.

Im reading the book on hypnobirthing right now. You will definitely have to take classes... Or at least I will. I dont see how someone can learn to put themselves into hypnosis from reading the book. Maybe its just me.

Anyways I have heard the same thing about hypnobabies being more effective. Good luck!

I too used Hypnobirthing and loved it but have heard that Hypnobabies is more effective. I didn't actually use the CD during labor with either of my children but I know that all the practice during pregnancy and visualization helped me tremendously.

Welcome to the board! I hope you get your BFP soon and we see you posting more often. Be sure to ask anything you have questions about. That's what we are here for!

it seems really effective for some, but I think it depends on your personality. It isn't for me, but I've supported mamas through it

I'm working on Hypnobabies program now----I don't know yet how It will do with labor but I DO believe its helped me a ton with sleeping, how I feel everyday, making me that happy/healthy/annoying pregnant person! LOL I have a few friends who did Hypnobabies and they ALL have had no pain meds, and I have had friends who have done hypnobirthing program (morgan method) and it works for some but it was about 50/50.

I used this program with my last.

While it did not make my labor "effortless and pain free", it did help me tremendously. I listened to one of the relaxation CD's twice while i was in the tub (I went in at 3 or 4 cm and came out at 7 or 8).

Also, I loved listening to the CD's during my pregnancy. they put me into the nicest floaty sleep.

I should get them back out for this time

Hi and welcome! I am doing hypnobabies this time around too- and I think so far it has been really worth it. I am amazed already at how much it has helped ( almost too effective, as we had a preterm scare- apparently I am very open to my own suggestions!) I am confident, relaxed, and enjoying my pregnancy and I have no real complaints either- no tiredness, heartburn, sleep issues- and really I think it is all hypnobabies, as it taught me to eat well ( I needed more protien) relax, and believe in the process of natural birthing. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be back to tell you how wonderful it was- I'm really looking forward to my own brtih story!

I didn't use any specific method with my first but I plan to use one of the hypno programs with my next. The midwife we will be using is a hypnobirthing instructor, I am leaning more towards hypnobabies though, so I am not sure what I will go with exactly yet.

I'm using hypnobabies. I'm only about 2 weeks into it, but I'm pleased with it so far. I'm one of those super analytical/logical people who is a complete skeptic when it comes to hypnosis, but once I did some research about how this works I realized it isn't all mystic and hogwash like I was afraid it will be. I have really high hopes for it. And if nothing else, I agree with all the other posters who have said it definitely helps you relax and sleep!

Check out the hypnobabies website (which I think is www.hypnobabies.com) for more info about how it works.

One more thing-- they hypnobabies home study includes course material, a study guide, info for your partner, and CDs to listen to. It includes some info about diet, prenatal care, etc. and claims to be the only class you need. Of course I've read a bunch of other books too, but I am not taking any other birthing classes because I really feel like I don't need them. I believe my body will know what to do when the time comes, and I'll just trust it and follow my instincts.
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as Iíve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
Iím rocking my baby and babies donít keep.

I am also taking the hypnobabies home study course and so far I love it. It's a lot of work and preparation but I would not expect anything else. I chose hyponbabies as I read that it had a high success rate and even my OB told me that if you could get in the zone she has seen it work really well.

I used HypnoBabies, also. I can't say enough good about it. It was an amazing, awesome experience. I enjoyed the process so much, that I couldn't wait to try it again, to see if I could do it even better, just weeks after giving birth.

But, I think, even better than the wonderful labor experience, the results I had from my pregnancy were enough to convince me of how great it was. I always listened to the scripts as I went to sleep at night. I slept so well during my whole pregnancy. I was very calm and relaxed. I was extremely healthy. I had a wonderful attitude. And, I went almost 2 weeks past my due date.
