Hope you don't mind me popping in...my name is Ashley and I'm pregnant with #3, but I am hoping for my first NCB.

A little background as to why I'm sooooo looking forward to a med and intervention free birth:
With DD, I had an epidural that only took on one side. I could still feel everything on my left side but was still stuck in a bed pushing on my back. I pushed for an hour and a half. It was awful.

With DS, I was induced and decided to attempt another epidural hoping the first was just a fluke. This time it did not work at all. My most distinct memories of his labor are the nurses coming in constantly turning me from side to side to try to get my epidural to kick in, the anesthesiologist pulling the epidural part way out and reinserting it, and that awful urinary catheter that they wouldn't take out even though I could feel everything. Plus, I was stuck in a bed the entire time. Simply awful.

Long story short, I'm hoping to get some pointers, words of wisdom, or just some old fashioned encouragement over the next few months.

You have just articulated more of the reasons I really want to do this naturally. This section of the board is great, with some wonderful resources and encouraging members. I hope you get the NCB you're looking for this time through. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Congratulations and welcome! It definitely sounds like your previous births were not great at all! :{ That's so unfortunate. This is my first baby, so I'm afraid I can't really offer any pointers as far as NCB goes (I'm hoping for a waterbirth), but I can always be around for support! I truly hope you get the birth experience you are looking for this time.

Congratulations and welcome! I'm so sorry about your previous birth experiences. The good news is, without the epidural restraining you to the bed, there are SO MANY things you can do to help cope and make yourself more comfortable! I'd recommend finding a good natural birth class in your area; Bradley, Hypnobabies, Brio, Birth Boot Camp, etc. are all good options. Also read as much as you can to help educate and prepare yourself. You might consider hiring a doula too. I hope you get the positive, empowering birth you deserve!

Hi! I hope you feel welcome posting all of your questions here! I had my first NCB with my 3rd baby (my easiest labor and birth by FAR). I hope you have a similar easy experience!
