I forgot to talk to you when we were all in WI...

The guy that lives here, they are paleo too, not nearly as paleo as you and Kaiden are, but I'd say about 80% of the time they've been on the paleo diet for the past decade.

He and I were talking and he was curious if nightshade foods affect Kaiden because his body had not yet healed all the way from getting the gluten out of his body, so the nightshade foods were able to still affect him. Does that make sense?

I'm curious and wanted to ask you!!!!

It makes sense, but sorry, no, LOL!! Kaiden got some gluten via multi-grain cereal Aug 09 thru part of Dec-09. We didn't stop nightshades until almost the end of May 2010, so about 5 months later.

Nightshades affect him because they contain glycoalkaloids which are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. In him (and I think this is partly because of DS/the extra chromosome, which means other extra stuff in his body) this causes a buildup of acetylcholine in the brain, which in turn causes seizures and majorly slows his cognitive process. As best as I can figure out based on studies, it actually allows too much activity for his nervous system, so his brain cannot filter out all the "noise", and thereby slows down.
