I went to a woman's center yesterday for my pg loss testing. I did not know it was a religious center (they did not mention it on their site or on the phone). I would have never went there if i knew it was a missionary place.

They started by asking me questions if I've accepted Jesus into my heart. I said no. Then they tried to explain to me why it is so important to believe in Jesus as my savior and that if you do not believe in Jesus as a son of god, then when you stand in front of God you'll not go to heaven. They said that just being a good person is not enough, you MUST believe in Jesus. Ok, in that case people of other religions are all doomed to go to hell. I know they probably meant well with all that trying to convert me.. but I did not ask for a bible lecture.. In the end they asked me if I wanted to accept Jesus as my savior right at that moment.

Well, maybe I could do that but what if I do not believe in the existence of heaven or hell or god? I mean life would have been much easier for me if I thought that I'll meet all the people I loved in heaven. I just cannot make myself believe in the things that i know don't exist . it makes me wonder, do people still truly believe in heaven or hell? in the 21st century??

Sorry for your loss.
But yeah, people definitely still believe it. At least where I live. I hear it all the time.
It doesn't make logical sense to, but they do.

YEah.

My mom died 6 years ago and I was out of work for about a month between her being ill, dying, the funeral and all. Anyway when I got back my coworkers had all signed a card. One of them... had signed the card "don't worry shes not really dead, shes just in heaven"

Seriously and for real. This person didn't know I was an athiest so they weren't doing it to get my goat, they were serious.

That is horrible. I can't stand it when people put their religious beliefs out there w/ out knowing what the other person believes. I find it completely arrogant. Seriously... like there is only one set of beliefs or lack thereof out there? come on people....

Ditto what everyone else said.

I've always loved debating with bible thumpers about other religions. The only thing they could come up with was "those other gods don't exist, they are wrong. Why? Because I know god exist's and they are wrong". Ok then.

And yes, people definitely do believe in a god, heaven and a hell. It isn't logical, but they do.

The ones who believe in heaven almost all think that they'll end up there.

Funny, that.
