I used to post here a bit but haven't been around since he's seemed to be all better. He had silent reflux and never had issues with vomiting but would have terrible burning pains and would scream from it. Tried Zantac for several weeks and then went to 1/2 of Prevacid solutab. He also had issues pooping so we used acidolphilus and he got much better. He's over year now and pretty much on all table food only occassionally has babyfood for maybe a snack. He's been off his meds for a few months now and has been great! But recently, like in the last week or two he's had two screaming spells like when he was hurting before. No fever or any other visible reasons for his crying. He is clearly upset about something. He acts like he wants me to put him down and then when I do he cries even worse and tries to get back in my lap. I feel so bad because he just cries and cries and nothing works. The two times this has happened, I gave him Tylenol just in case he's teething or something and then I gave him a dose of prevacid that we still have. He cries a bit more then burps several times and goes off to sleep.... I'm just wondering if any of you noticed that your baby was sensitive to certain foods after going off meds and being fine. All I can think of is that he's had something that gave him heartburn and that's why he's crying........The first time this happened dh gave him a couple bites of some noodles he was eating that had some tobasco sauce in it. I was surprised he actually liked it and wanted more. I figured since he was eating it, that dh must not have put much in at all plus I figured it was mostly in the sauce and not really covering the noodles. Then today we had chili for lunch. I didn't think anything of him eating it because I don't make it spicey at all! My other kids won't eat it if it is a little spicy and I don't like it hot but like the flavor. But he had another crying spell tonight and I just don't know what to think. He loves to eat whatever we are eating and so far there hasn't been anything I can think of that he doesn't like. He's been eating regular food for awhile and these are the only times it's happened. I just thought that we one day be done with all this... But now I'm wondering if he's still got issues with certain foods. Or maybe it's just something totally unrelated...Any thoughts or similar experiences???

I'm not sure what that could be either. Since it's only happened two times so far, I guess I'd just wait and see if it happens again and then talk to the doc about it? It's so hard to tell what's wrong with them when they are so little. My guess is like yours - perhaps the slightly spicey food? But I don't know. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I think it was the food. He was fine during the day yesterday and had no issues last night. He went to sleep normally and slept all night! I'm just going to have to watch what I let him eat and keep track of things that upset him. His daddy tends to have tummy trouble with some foods so I guess he takes after him in that respect...

the tomatoes are what is doing it to him. it doesnt have to be spicy, its the acidity in the tomatoes. you can try a little maalox or mylanta when he eats acidic food, sometimes that will help

Coral is 17 months (15 adjusted) and she still suffers from reflux with certain foods. We were up half the night last night with reflux and she had had tomatoes and cucumbers with dinner. I'm guessing one of them was the culprit. There's a list of reflux-causing foods up in the Stickies somewhere!
