Hi. My LO is Coby he is 5.5 months old. When he was 6 weeks our Dr diagnosed him with silent reflux and lactose intolerant. He was switched to soy formula and put on Prevlocid(SP). Our decided to skip zantac since I have GER and that did nothing for it. He also had us start to give LO rice cereal in his bottles at night because his reflux was worse at night. So we've been doing that ever since. He only drinks 4 bottles a day 2 with rice and 2 without. I'm debating on phasing at least one bottle of rice out a day. But I'm not sure if I should. His schedule is wake around 7am for 8oz bottle with rice and falls back asleep till 9-10am. He has a 6oz bottle with reflux meds around noon-1. Around 3-4pm he drinks a 4-6oz bottle. Between 6-7pm he gets his baby food sometimes with rice or oatmeal sometimes without. Then around 8pm he gets 8oz bottle with rice. The rice seems to help him not reflux during the night, but the morning one I'm not so sure about. He was a big boy at birth (10lbs 9oz, born at 37 weeks) but dropped over a pound 2 days after birth. It took him till 6 weeks to finally get back to birth weight, but since then he's been gaining what seems to me to be fast. Last week he was 21.8lbs at the Dr office. So do you think I should take out the morning rice? Also when LOs are sick what can I do to help him from getting a bad flair up?

Welcome! You have a big boy there. As far as the bottles, Wesley was taking some bottles with rice (about half of them a day with rice), and I just gave him either more bottles with rice or less depending on how much he threw up after eating. Your boy has silent reflux, so it might be harder to tell. It seems like he is pretty heavy, but all babies grow at different rates. I would just go with your gut.

Wesley has only been sick once, for a day, so I'm not really sure what things can help with that. I know we used a Vicks humidifier, and that helped clear him up quickly.

Welcome!

I have found when B is sick I feed her less more often. Or she winds up throwing her whole bottle up. Even if it is just an ounce less.

I am not sure about the bottles b/c B is 9 months and still gets rice in all her bottles. She also has a milk intolerance which I think she is growing out of....YAY.
And she is a silent refluxer too.

Not sure how much that helped, but good luck and KUP!

I would ask his doctor about dropping the cereal and switching to SimplyThick. It is tasteless, colorless, odorless, and has no calories and was designed to thicken liquids for medical reasons. Many refluxers have great results with it, but it can be spendy, so ask for a prescription so your insurance will cover it. Good luck

That's a good idea. Wesley needed to gain weight, so rice was good for the extra calories. You could ask about the Simply Thick if you don't have that issue.

Thanks! I'll ask about the Simply Thick at his 6M apt which is in a couple weeks. I'm going to call our insurance's prescription number to ask about it. Hopefully they will cover it.

I had him in yesterday for a cold. He was at the walk in last week and she gave him some ear drops, but it got worse and to the point he was waking himself coughing. They put him on some cough meds. His Dr thinks right now he's in the middle of a cold and teeth on the verge of breaking through. Yesterday his stats were just shy of 29", 21lbs 7oz, and 18" head. So he's pretty much staying on the 98% curve that he's been on since birth. Funny how when he was in the NICU all we wanted was for him to gain after the drop so he could go home. Since he's been home we want him to slow down since he's growing so fast.
