So Jacob turned 1 on August 25th. I recently weaned him to BF 3 times a day (before that he was only BFing 5 times a day - max). The morning, noon time, and before bed. Monday, he woke up with a fever. It lasted until yesterday morning. During that time, I BFed him whenever he asked for it, because I knew he wasn't feeling well. Today the fever is completely gone but he is asking to BF like every 2 hrs!! I don't know what is going on. I don't see any teeth coming in so I don't think its teething either. Is there a 1 year growth spurt? Does anyone have a clue what is going on? Before the fever he was really only asking to BF about 2-3 times a day.

Even though his fever is gone, he could still be fighting whatever he had/has. Most children will really pick up on nursing when they are sick, both for comfort and I think it's nature's way of telling them that the antibodies in our milk will help them fight it off better.

Hello Melissa ~ My dd is a bit older and I have always breastfed on demand. I'm shocked to see how many times she will go on these b/f marathons! Anyway I wholeheartedly agree with the PP.

I don't really know what's up on your end like you do. I wonder if maybe it's him wanting to b/f more? If you want him to stop, you could offer water/food instead, clean diaper, a little outside time and if he's inconsolable, then give him some boobie. Anyway, let us know what you decide and good luck in the meantime!

Cheers, Michelle
