Today is Day 5 since giving birth...it took this long for my milk to come in last time too. Well I'm totally engorged. Just had hubby run to Walmart to get a little manual pump. However.....I noticed that I don't seem to have a real "let down" and no leaking. I thought when I pumped one side the other side would leak?? Or that I would have more than a few drops come out with pumping?

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb...I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together...Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Can you hand express at all? I was never able to get any milk from a hand pump, none at all. If you are engorged, you obviously have milk not everyone feels their let downs or not right away. Is the baby making enough wet diapers?

a pump sometimes dosent work on everyone and same with leaking, its not a 'bad' thing if you dont leak. but I do know a few people who have had issues with pumps not working for them...

also have you tryed massaging them as you pump? I know that helps me A LOT sometimes while pumping, it helps with a let down. also lightly squeezing for a minute in one spot at a time helps to, I know its not the best while being engourged!

do you have any of the soothing gel packs? When I was engourged, I would put them on for about 10 minutes before pumping/feeding and it really helps reduce the swelling and in return you can get more milk out. I found that works the best.

Good luck and I hope you can find something that works for you and gets you some relief soon!

Leaking and how much you can pump is not a good way to judge your milk supply. I didnt leak much with my first, didnt even get properly engorged after my milk came in but I had no problem nursing her exclusively.
