Many mothers these days are much more open with talking to their daughters about BC....at least many that I know personally.

How did you learn about birth control? Who did you learn from? What did they tell you about the diff. things out there available?

Hmmm... good question.

Before I got my period as a teen, my mom gave me the "birds and bees" talk; later that year we also had the biological "talk" in school, but I don't think birth control was ever mentioned.

In high school, we had a more in-depth health course that covered human reproduction, and I know for a fact that we learned about birth control methods there -- what methods were available, how each of them worked. We also received a handy-dandy pamphlet outlining them all, which I kept and referenced later.

Before DH & I got married, I went out online and researched the various types again, compared pros and cons, and together we decided on using NFP/FAM.

I basically learned on my own, and from my doctor. My mom didn't talk with me about BC because she thought if she did, then I would go out and have sex. My doctor talked to me when I was 16 about getting on the pill because of my heavy periods and bad cramps, but my mom refused for a few months to allow me to. Ever since, I did research on my own, and talked to my doctor about it.
