Hello Ladies,

Thought I would pop in here an ask I went to the dr yesterday as I had been having spotting between periods with like a browny discharge (sorry if tmi). The thing is it smells sweet like honey not off or disgusting. No other symptoms just the discharge,.

I had some swabs done,a pap and some bloods also so just waiting for the results next week to come back.

What do u ladies think I should do about birth control though.
Every month when my period comes the first 2-3 days are like a dam has opened up and I go through 1 super tampon within an hour and sometimes leak through. I know they said a side effect is heavier periods but this is crazy!! Before birth control my periods were light.
Then on top of it I get this browny discharge where I need to wear liners in between periods, it is so frustrating.

We went for this option as it's non hormonal and we're not sure when we will have our next baby. I didn't want to go back on the pill as last time it took me 3 months to get a period after coming off it and then a further 6 months to fall pregnant.

I'm thinking of getting the IUD taken out and just using condoms perhaps. It is more risky, but It's definately not fun having the heavy bleeding and spotting and always worrying if its an infection or just my body not liking the IUD.

I forgot to add I've had the IUD in for just under 1 year now.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Im sorry you are having to go through all of that. I really don't have any advice. It seems like since you periods have been like that for a year now, that they aren't going to get any better. Good Luck, I hope the Dr. will have some answers for you soon!

Thank you. Yea I really want these results to come back to see whats going on, but still seriously considering having it removed and going on condoms. If I did fall pregnant it wouldn't be the end of the world, but to go back on birth control if we want to have a baby within 6 months is probably not a good idea.

I got my results back all normal, negative and clear thank goodness. The only thing the DR did mention was my iron stores were slightly low and to supplement iron tablets every second day or so.

So the spotting must just be something that I get for an unknown reason. So now just have to decide what I'm going to do whether to leave it in for awhile or have the IUD taken out cos of the heavier periods.

Just thought I would send an update incase anyone ever has a similar question regarding the copper iud and discharge etc.

Hmmm if it were me I would probably get it removed...

Have you & your SO considered NFP (natural family planning)? I know it isn't for everyone, but it is another non-hormonal option you could consider... I really dislike hormonal b/c, so an IUD was my last option (after getting pregnant using NFP, because I wasn't committed enough to making it work..) - luckily for me my (copper) IUD is working out great.

Well DH and i sort of discussed it and will prolly stay on the IUD for a little longer and take iron supplements and then come off it in a few months and use condoms until we're ready for number two.

It's such a hard decision especially to plan when u're going to have number 2 etc also and staying protected till then.

Haven't taken the IUD out and have decided to leave it in for the moment perhaps until we TTC next. But bcos i had low iron stores which could be from the heavy periods i will have a repeat iron bloods done and if they are still low after the supplements i will change and go on the BCP of just use condoms. I haven't really had the bleeding and discharge in between cycles just a little after dtd.
