I had Paragard placed on Thurs. When they went to check it with the U/S they found that my small fibroid had gotten very large over my pregnancy. It takes up over half my uterus. The paragard wasn't placed as high in the uterus as it needs to be because of the large fibroid. They want to recheck the fibroid to see if it changes sizes in 5 weeks. I'll be 3 months pp then. They told me to use condoms since the paragard could come out because of the poor placement.

Anyone ever heard of this problem? Anyone have fibroids and a working paragard? I'm not really sure if I should even want to keep the paragard if it could cause some sort of problem or have any chance of not being effective.

I've heard of this. As you were told - if the Paragard isn't placed well, the chance of expulsion is higher. The Paragard partly works by causing inflammation and irritation to the lining of the uterus (to prevent implantation). This clinical action may aggravate your fibroid and cause some bleeding, so don't be surprised if that happens. Also, if you notice any pain or discomfort - call your doctor! Since it's not placed well, there is also a higher chance the IUD may become lodged some place it shouldn't be, so don't ignore pain!
