What kind do you have?

I just sold something on eBay, and I thought I would treat myself to a monitor. I feel like if I have one, it will be more motivation to get up and move.

Also, those of you who have one, is it a constant measurement? Or do you only turn it on at certain times? I really like the Mio Watch, but I need to read more about my options.

I want one too.. and I want one of those pace counter thingys.. but the more reviews i read.. the more discouraged i get from getting one.

I only have a certain amount of money to use and I'm scared to buy one and have it not work or something.

Well, a HRM wasn't number one on my priority list of things to buy when I got one. DH bought it for me as a gift when he managed a Radio Shack. I think it was only like $20ish. My normal dainty girly watch broke about 3-4 months ago and I just put on the watch portion of my HRM and haven't ever bought another watch. I wear it all the time now, but only put on the chest strap to get my HR when I'm working out. Although, I did forget to take it off the other day and it was beeping me through Wal-Mart because I wasn't in the right zone. Yeah, people were looking at me like I was nuts when it would beep, but I wasn't going to strip down to take the chest strap off in the middle of the store. I just turned it on and started walking faster to see how many calories I could burn. I will say, though, that it was the best $ DH has ever spent on me. I can't stand working out now without knowing my stats and knowing those stats keeps me in my target HR zone so that I do more fat burning.

I got a Polar brand one. They have a lot of different options, some of them are really pricey and then there are some that are reasonably priced. I didn't get one with all the bells and whistles, but it does enough. Mine you have to turn it on when you want it to start recording your heart rate and calories and turn it off when you are done. It's pretty cool and it definitely helps me get a better workout. When I go without my monitor it's easy for me to not keep my heart rate up quite high enough.
