What do you all think of cheat meals? DH wants to do a cheat meal once a week. By cheat meal, I mean eating out or ordering in.

Do you have any kind of "cheat" snack or meal?

well, i dont think a cheat meal but maybe a cookie or a lil bit of ice cream. A meal means you will more than likely be consuming a ton of unneccessary calories! You worked so hard throughout the week I dont think gaining 1 pound for a cheat meal would make you or anyone feel good. But a little something cant be too bad. hope i was some kind of help. Good Luck!!!!

i don't really do a big cheat. I do however reward myself once a week w/ something i like in addition to the healthy part. for instance, i've done good MOnday-Friday so Saturday I decide along with my turkey on wheat i want a small order of Mickey D fries (mmm) I'll do that. I don't doa meal for the same reason that azura said.

Actually - I don't think a cheat meal is a bad thing. As long as it is done in moderation...that's the key. Bill Phillips from Body For Life actually suggest a cheat day.

I actually use to do a cheat day. OH MY GOD!!! You wanna talking about feeling bad. I was so sick after a cheat day that I never wanted to eat bad again. Thats why I quit doing them, because I would get so sick from them. Now I eat whatever I want and allow for 1-2 servings from the "It Makes Me Feel Good Group" every day. One or two servings isn't going to make you fat, massive amounts of food all the time is going to make you fat, so having a cheat is fine as long as you keep your cheat in moderation too so you don't get sick from it.

I totally recomend it. Even the contestants on the BL get a cheat day (day after weigh in) it helps keep you on track the rest of the week.

yeah, I do a cheat day too. I like to think that I have the freedom of having to eat whatever I want for that one day. (and I got it from Bill Phillips too.. lol )

DH and I do have cheat meals, just not very often, and we don't go completely overboard. We'll take DS to McD's once every 2 weeks, and instead of having one of their gross wraps or salads, I'll order a kids cheeseburger meal-smaller portions with diet soda, and I get my fry fix. If I'm gonna cheat, its gonna be on something really good like a piece of cheesecake-mmm!

It depends. I think cheat meals are good, but if you are like me and have problems with binge eating then you might want to lay down some ground rules on what a cheat meal is. I do splurge now and then, but I have tried to make it just one meal, not a whole cheat day because that's when I get in trouble.

well a cheat meal for me can be a number of things. If i eat chinese i may just get the healthy platter, or i'll get sushi, or sometimes it's a couple slices of pizza...whatever it is, i make sure i still mold the rest of my day around that cheat meal, so i'll still get in the same calories but i'll have lower fat and lower calorie meals around the cheat meal.

I don't think cheat meals are a bad thing, it helps to curb cravings I guess you could say. I however also have problems with binge eating, so I try and stay away from cheat meals because it turns into a cheat day..etc..

I'm like Teresa in that if I were to have a cheat day I would be binge eating all day. A cheat meal is ok. Once a week I usually go out to lunch with my sister and that is usually my cheat meal. I still try to keep it healthy though nothing like a big mac with large fries or anything. We usually go to a diner and I get a chicken gyro salad or sandwich and sometimes DH and I will go out for BBQ and I usually get a beef brisket sandwich and a salad instead of greasy sides. I don't like to make food off limits because then I want it more and might break down and binge eat. I think if you can keep the meals in moderation than you should be fine!
