How when they are still in the sound out each letter and then blend them into a word stage they get the words correct based on their own accent or vocalized vs. non-vocalized sounds. For example, the word "has." /h/ short a and /s/ are the sounds h-a-and-s make, but you don't pronounce the s in has like the s in snake. It sounds more like a z. And yet kids sound out the sounds the letters make and then pronounce has correctly. Same thing for things like short a words where the a isn't pronounced the same as other short a words based on their own accent. It just amazes me.

I know!

My kids sound so polished when reading...but when talking they just relax and sound "normal" for them.

You know, I just noticed this too! It's amazing how much they pick up on their own!

I know! I was thinking about that a few weeks ago while listening to Jared read. Words like has, of, is, etc. He pronounces the letters according to their sounds and then pronounces the words correctly. Smart little fellas, aren't they?
