Emily's reading is going strong still. The words she recognizes by sight now are 'the, and, seen, do, it, is, see, his, this, that, big, pig, at, sat, but, you, some, no etc. etc.' There are quite a few. The words that she is able to sound out on her own are 'angels, sleep, can't, wizard, swing, little, choose, play, woke, them, back, bed. made, make, sister, ect.' The words she can do with help are ones like, 'said, would, light, bright, beautiful, what, when, elephant, brother, etc.' So we are doing pretty well. Apparently, she told me that she practices reading when she wakes up by reading to her sister while she is in her crib before they get me out of bed. Course, sometimes she gets bored of trying to read and makes up her own story too. And she figured out that 4 + 3 = 7. Then she got some calculator thing out of cereal box and brought it with her in the car. After I showed her the "trick" that it could do she plugged in 8 + 5 = 13. We also went to another homeschool park day and had a great time talking to other homeschoolers. My friend who moved away from me and is homeschooling her two boys came and she was so excited to meet other moms who homeschool so her 7 year old could have some friends. He was so excited that there were boys his age. We are continuing to have fun, just wanted to update.

Oh, and the baby has been benefiting from all the reading around here. She notices words and points to them in her books and says 'A, T, E, O, P', I think those are the only ones she knows right now. But it amazes me that she knows those at 15 months and knows that those letters on the page have names and say something! She doesn't get them correct, just knows the names of letters. It's so cute, she looks like she is trying to read.

Wow! That's really super!

Sounds like both of yours are really smart! My Rachel (will be 6 in July) was like that too, Michaela (3 yrs) is a different story.
