I was just wondering if any of you vaccinating Mom's chose to have the MMR broken up into 3 separate shots? I definitely plan to vaccinate but don't know how comfortable I feel with the MMR "cocktail". If you did, how did your Dr react to the request? Did the vaccines have to be specially ordered by your Ped?

I didn't separate MMR into three shots so I don't have any personal experience. IIRC, the company that was making three separate shots isn't anymore or its in limited supply. I thought I heard that one the dr. sears website, but I can't find the information right now. If your doctor can't get a hold of any for you, Dr. Sears, suggests trying to get the vaccine at university hospitals, since they'll have a larger supply of hard to find vaccines.
If you do decide to go with the full MMR vaccine, you might find this article comforting: HealthDay (basically it says separating the vaccine or doing the full vaccine didn't make a difference in autism rates)

ETA: If you do want to break up the vaccine, mention it to your doctor well before your DC's appointment so that he/she has time to order it.

I didn't separate the MMR with either of my children, but hope your able to find something that works for you!
My 3yr old son Landan died 23hrs after being diagnosed with Meningococcal Meningitis. It is a potentially vaccine preventable disease. The vaccine isn't on the schedule until 11-12yrs but is approved for use at age 2yrs. Our second son received the vaccine in December 2010 when he was 2yrs old. My son & thousands of other children prove that a vaccine is needed at a younger age.

The three separate shots are no longer made. I was going to separate them with my youngest and when I looked into having my pediatrician order it, found out that we couldn't get it anymore. I was bummed. I'm not worried about there being any association with autism because I don't think there's a link to begin with, I just didn't want to assault his immune system with so much at once. It looks like now I have no choice though.
