I am less than a month into 35; I got pregnant right around my birthday (but LMP was before so technically I began my pregnancy at 34!) So I accept that I am "over 35." This is my 2nd pregnancy. What can I expect differently in my OB appointments this time?
DS born 9/2/09
DD born 3/20/12

Congratulations and welcome!! For me, the last time I had a baby was 16 years ago and so far the only difference is I have ultrasounds every 4 weeks instead of just a few times during the pregnancy. They look at the baby/cord/placenta more closely to ensure everything is aok.

I had my dd at 36 & my ds at 40. I wasn't treated any differently than any other pregnant person under 35. I only got the 1 10 week ultrasound & the same amount of checkups. I did get the genetic ultrasound but only because insurance would pay & I'd get another look at the baby!

I was healthy and have no family history of pregnancy issues or birth defects.

The only thing is that I did see my chart & it said "Advanced Maternal Age" on it

I was never pregnant before, so I'm not exactly sure (I'm 39). But my understanding from my MW is that there is a higher risk of stillbirth, so they are going to do more sonograms than usual to make sure everything is normal, and they offer Down's Syndrome and Trisomy 18 screening to everyone over 35 because the risk for Down's goes up to a whopping 1%! They make you feel so scared, but it's ok; our babies are gonna be fine!
