Hi Ladies,

I'm hoping you all can give me some good advice. My DD is 7 mo old and I bf her when I'm with her and when I'm at work I currently pump for her 3xs a day. When I pump I get about 16 - 20 oz total for the day while I'm at work. She usually drinks 16 oz at daycare while I'm at work.

Work has become much busier for me and I was trying to see if there were a way that I could reduce my pumping sessions to just 2xs a day and still produce the 16 oz for her.

Right now each session is 10 minutes long. Would it be possible to switch over and pump 2xs a day but for 15 minutes each time and still get the same amount of milk? Or is it too risky to do this? I don't want to supplement with formula because I simply cannot afford it.

What experience and advice do you ladies have for me.

You can reduce the number of pumpings, and you may not show a decrease right away, but it may eventually lessen. There is really no way to know. If you do notice that you get less, you can add in another session again, but it may be harder to increase your output again.

When I went from 3 to 2, I did see a bit of a drop, but it wasnt' a large drop until I went to only 1 session. But I also had a large freezer stash, so if I was short here and there, it didn't matter much.

Everyone is different. I dropped a session at work - and still produce the same amount. But I was only getting 10 ounces to start, for a combined 3x a day. Sometimes 12. Now I get 10-11 ounces, and have been for the last couple of months. I have been pumping for nearly a year now.
