I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem - one of my breasts is significantly more difficult to get milk out of while pumping. Here is more info:

- never had this happen with my older child and I also exclusively pumped
- I did have some blocked ducts a few weeks ago due to my sleeping positions but the blockages and the pain seem to have gone away
- if I heavily massage the breast, I get almost as much as from the good breast but if I don't, I will end up getting one ounce and the breast will remain hard. The other breast needs no stimulation to produce 5 oz in 10 min

Any ideas on what could this be?

I sometimes had the same thing happen when I was pumping. Sometimes one just responds better to pumping than the other, or one just produces more, or there may be some blocked ducts that still need working out. I would recommend continuing to massage...I got to where I did that each time anyway, just because I pumped more if I did. But overall, my right always pumped more than my left.

Have yu tried a warm towel or heat pack (not too hot) over that breast about 10-20 mins before pumping? That might help things along a bit. I'm not sure why only one is being sluggish. But it may help with the let down.

I always have one that doesn't want to cooperate. I pretty much have to massage - compress and hold - the entire time I pump. I could pump for an hour and not massage and maybe get 2 ounces out of each side and be in agony, or massage for 30 minutes and get 6 1/2 ounces from each side. I wish I could just sit there and read a book, but I have to actively massage and press down in certain areas to get the milk to come out at all.
